Project title Bovine Respiratory Disease Risk Assessment Mobile Application
Background Bovine respiratory disease (BRD) is the number two killer of calves preweaning and first postweaning. The disease presents mainly as pneumonia but can include upper respiratory tract clinical signs too. BRD has multiple etiologies and a complex web of associations with management practices. Its control relies on a thorough assessment of all the environmental, management and pathogen related exposures, something that can only be feasible by a comprehensive risk assessment of said exposures. Hence, our team's work over the past decade was to conduct the studies that provide the risk scores for a risk assessment for calves.
Description I am seeking help building a mobile app for school of vet med’s patent-pending risk assessment for pneumonia in calves (bovine respiratory disease, BRD). Briefly, the risk assessment contains 44 questions in 6 sections, each question has a set of answers that are related to specific risk scores. The higher a dairy’s risk score total the greater their risk for pneumonia in calves. Completing the risk assessment on paper is an arduous task that only starts after asking the producer the 44 questions by first tallying the totals for each section and comparing the sum to the range of risks. Once that is completed, the 44 question scores are assessed and any failures (high risk scores) are identified and used to populate a report that also lists changes needed in management. These tasks can be automated to make the assessment easier and quicker for the producer and herd veterinarian. The risk assessment is patent pending and can be found here: https://escholarship.org/uc/item/1jb2f7rm I realize this may not be enough information but happy to email/talk more about my needs if you have time to meet.
Deliverable A mobile application that producer or herd vet can answer the 44 questions and obtain a report that can be emailed containing the different practices with high risk scores and changes to be made.
