Project's details

Project title Identification of Pirated Video Content
Background Content producers such as NBC. HBO. BBC etc. are in a constant battle with pirates to prevent unlicensed distribution of their media over the Internet. One of the methods they employ is to add an invisible watermark to their content such that pirated content may be flagged and removed. Another method is to create a database of recognizable features in the media for later comparison. Pirates attempt to thwart these approaches by manipulating the content in such a way that the watermark can no longer be detected (e.g. scaling. rotating. speeding up etc.)
Description The scale-invariant feature transform (SIFT) is a feature detection algorithm in computer vision to detect and describe local features in images. The patent on this algorithm has expired or is due to expire soon. The goal of this project is to create an application that can be used to flag pirated video. This might be achieved by using the SIFT algorithm to correlate features in online media with features in the original protected content.
Deliverable The project would consist of components that could be split between team members. including application design. video processing and watermark / feature detection algorithm development.
Skill set desirable C++ or C# for the application logic. Telestream have a team of three software developers who will be available to advise. No previous knowledge of video processing is assumed.
